Tendon History

Tendon Systems is a second-generation family-owned business. We are proud to provide world-class post-tensioning, concrete restoration and other services to businesses nationwide. Our excellent work has led the way in innovative processes and project management for everything from bridges and airports to parking garages and high rises.

When starting Tendon Systems, Brad Raffensperger first noticed a gap in the market place.  He heard his clients’ pain points that the post-tensioning industry had a lack of understanding and empathy for the challenges that contractors and developers faced keeping a project under budget and on schedule.

His solution was to provide General Contractors and Building Owners a single source lump sum contract for the engineered design of the complete post-tensioned structural concrete system that included the post-tensioning materials, and installation services of the post-tensioning and reinforcing materials. Instead of writing multiple contracts to many sub-contractors and suppliers, a contractor could bundle the package for this complete list of products and services with one company – Brad’s company.

Most post-tensioning companies focused purely on the supply of post-tensioning materials with limited technical support. In some areas of the United States there were a few companies that supplied and installed the post-tensioning system, but they did not have any structural design and value engineering design capability. A few companies offered post-tensioning materials with some limited post-tension design support services, but only for the post-tensioned elements.  Brad’s vision was to bundle that all together and it was enthusiastically received in the marketplace. This afforded their clients to consistently get engineering insights that provided significant cost reductions.

With many years of structural engineering design experience focused primarily on cast in place post-tensioned structures – high rise offices, apartments, hotels and condominiums, Brad provided optimal structural post-tensioned concrete systems that minimized the Owner’s construction budget. This total solution approach of design-materials and installation eliminated project delays of missed shipments and missing components and finger pointing between multiple subcontractors and suppliers over who was at fault.

During that time, Brad also ventured into the area of structural building restoration.  Restoration of parking garages and condominiums were the entry point. In the 90’s the company performed its first structural strengthening utilizing Carbon Fiber FRP to strengthen a conventionally reinforcing condominium clubhouse that had been under designed by the Engineer of Record. They also strengthened a golf cart bridge in Cherokee County. During the Great Recession of 2008-2010 Tendon focused further into building repair, and historical preservation as new construction dried up.

Today Tendon Systems is recognized as an innovative leader in the Southeast for advanced technology solutions for new post-tensioned concrete structures and restoration of existing concrete structures.

We are a second generation family owned business. Kyle Raffensperger, after building our Multi-family Division to the market leader in our field of competition, was well prepared to lead the company. Brad was elected Secretary of State for the State of Georgia in December of 2018 and was succeeded by Kyle who now serves as the President of Tendon Enterprises. During 2019 the company experienced record sales and client satisfaction in our core lines of business.
